Mobile 2.0: Where is the money in mobile advertising?

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

YOOSE has not been part of the Mobile 2.0 event in the valley this year, but one of the conference organizers Rudy de Wale from m-trends.org has written a good summary of the event.

The leading questions are: How viable is mobile advertising in an economic slowdown? How will the current economy impact businesses that derive revenues from mobile advertising? Can mobile advertising count on VC funding?

If you are interested about the answers, please continue reading here.

Seedcamp Week in London

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

So finally the big week has come and we are since Sunday morning in London for Seedcamp Week. Lots of good advice from a huge crowd of mentors, which helped us to get more focus in our offering. After three days of mentoring with the major topics founders, product, marketing, technical & investment and lots of great panels (my favorite was the investment panel). But also the Atlas networking event on Monday evening was a clear highlight.

Today was showdown for all 22 teams and the pitches due. We kind of volunteered for the first slot at 9am. This did not leave any time to get too nervous and we walked the jury of about 25 investors through our product demo and the execution plan to launch YOOSE. Tomorrow morning at 10am we’ll find out who the five winners are. Meanwhile you can guess and bet at Hubdub who will be amongst the winning teams.

The reason for our early slot was the fact that we are presenting at the TechCrunchTalk our product at the demo table, sponsored by BuzzPal. Thanks to Chris for the offer. Mike Butcher is just finishing up the panel discussion and is opening for drinks now.

Seedcamp interview day

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

We’ve been invited to join the Seedcamp interview day in London! 40 teams will present in 10 min slots to the jury. 20 teams will make it then to the Seedcamp week (sept. 15-20). On the way to the airport we discussed the final presentation. On the flight to Luton airport we were travelling together with the team from tickerTXT, who won the Seedcamp day in Berlin and got directly admitted to the interviews, bypassing the application process.
We arrived at the eOffice location in Soho during the lunch-break and could chat with some of the jury members, an opportunity not everyone had, as during the whole day 40+ teams presented and the slots were timed exactly. Our pitch was short and focusing on our vision of the connected wallet and why this makes us different from other mobile marketing providers.
Also we could surprise the jury with a demo of the brand new prototype of our mobile client (in addition to the browser based version which was shown before). During the Q&A we answered questions about our go to market model, the backend platform and application development plans.
After our pitch we were surprised by a sales pitch directed to us from Mandy, the sales executive of the eOffice, offering a Seedcamp promotion for eOffice space in London.
The time before heading back to Luton airport was used together with Alex from Quilp for a 3D-RSS-Feed session close to Oxford street, as you can see below. Now we’re looking forward to receive the feedback from the jury. Stay tuned!

Live from the facebook developer garage

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Listening through a webcast in Berlin with a few crazy web folks in to Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote speech from the facebook developer conference. Unfortunately the inspiration he could transmit was not very high and the advanced hour (22h30 Berlin time) did not help either. However we’re planning to develop a YOOSE facebook app, to share your coupons with your friends.

Web and monetization

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

After a long week we attended the monetization 2.0 camp in Berlin. I’ve learned that mobile monetization has not (yet) arrived in the mind of the online world and that making money out of the communities is a hot question with few really good answers. The session with Daniel from Want2Do about the classic ad agencies had some insights on how little the big budget responsibles care about online (now just imagine about mobile). With Thomas we raised the same topic as during the MobileWebCamp in Paris in October (”Mobile Marketing without annoying the consumer”) and had a good discussion around Blyk.

INSEAD Global Entrepreneurship Forum

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

This summer INSEAD organized for the first time the Global Entrepreneurship Forum. Built around the Business Venture Competition (congratulations to the winning teams), the MBA school gathered quite a high quality group of entrepreneurs, VCs and other relevant people for the two day event. My personal highlight was the panel discussion “How to raise capital without giving away your company” (Anat Bar-Gera - WiMax Africa, Maximilian Niederhofer - Atlas Ventures, Olivier Schuepbach - Wellington Partners, Moderator: Reshma Sohoni - SeedCamp).

Mini Seedcamp in Paris & Berlin

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Being based in Paris & Berlin we had the double opportunity to participate in the Seedcamp mini events. In Paris Christian could present YOOSE during the 5 minute pitches in the morning and we got some good feedback and a good discussion with the two guys from Google, based on the pitch. In the afternoon sessions, the best interaction happened with Philippe Collombel from Partech Ventures.
Only one week later the Seedcamp mini event in Berlin took place. Although we were not able to present a second time, Thomas was able to participate in the coaching sessions and could network with the other participants.

Hello world & open coffee club

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Out of the nothing… starting a new web presence. New content. And it’s all about entrepreneurship and mobile marketing. So if you enjoy reading about one of both topics (or even better both of them), then read on and don’t hesitate to give me your feedback and comments.

Welcome to the world of YOOSE - the mobile card wallet. More about YOOSE will be written soon here. But let me start with the highlight of last week. The OpenCoffeeClub meeting in Paris on Thursday morning. I’ve been now for the second time there and met quite a few interesting people from the internet and mobile ecosystem. The format is pretty informal. Meet at a specific time in the week or month equally minded people in your favorite city around the globe. Some of the people have been previously to the SparkCamp in Paris in April. So the network starts to connect.

So far so good for last week. The coming days are dedicated to get things moving in Berlin. I’ll update you on the progress.
